The thematic section surveys different aspects of Machiavelli’s thinking. The survey begins with a short selection of Machiavelli’s extended correspondence (source: Machiavelli, Tutte le opere, M. Martelli, ed. Firenze: Sanzoni Editore, 1989.). No part of Machiavelli’s correspondence has been published in Hungarian before. The translated secondary source is Eugene Garver’s introduction to his excellent monograph on Machiavelli, an eloquent example of current, rhetorically oriented analyses of Machiavelli’s work (source: Eugene Garver, Machiavelli and the History of Prudence. Madison: University of Wisconsin Press 1987, 6-22.). The editors would like to thank Kinga Dávid and Alessandro Rosselli from the Department of Italian at the University of Szeged for their help with the translations.
