About the Journal

Különbség (Difference) is a non-profit journal of the Department of Philosophy and the Doctoral School of Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Szeged, Hungary. It is a peer reviewed journal publishing articles, reviews and translations primarily on philosophy, but also in the broader field of the humanities, by Hungarian and foreign authors.

Although the main focus of the Journal is philosophy in the classical sense (the history of Western philosophy, epistemology, phenomenology, hermeneutics, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, etc.), it also includes articles covering topics from other humanities disciplines (e.g. literary theory, fine art theory, theatre, cultural and religious studies) provided they are related to or address theoretical issues. An additional mission of the Journal is to publish Hungarian translations of some influential philosophical texts that have not been available in Hungarian before. The translations are supplemented by interpretative essays clarifying the significance of such texts and providing some context for readers.

Volumes of the Journal are mostly thematic, but the Varia section includes articles on any topic complying with its general scope. The Critique section includes reviews of current books of interest.

Különbség is published in one volume annually, both in hard copy and open access online form. The open access online version is identical to the hard copy version and is freely available without a fee or restrictions, on the webpage of the journal. See Open Access Policy.
